Art Buying Guide
How do I pick the right size of the canvas art?

The following are some guidelines and not strict rules by any means. If you want to go bigger or smaller than the guidelines and you like it that way, then that is the right size for you.

Measure the wall
-
Measure the height and width of the wall where you want to hang.
-
The canvas should take up to 60% to 75% of wall.
-
Consider the size of the room and whether it has high ceilings. For very large walls with high ceilings consider placing multiple pieces of varying sizes to fill up the space (see collage example below).

Consider the placement of the canvas if hanging above furniture or fireplace
1. If you're hanging the canvas above a piece of furniture, like a sofa or bed, it should be at least 2/3 the size of the furniture or 60% to 90% as wide as furniture or fireplace underneath.
2. The center of the piece or pieces should fall at 58 inches high — an art gallery standard. This will give the artwork an optimal viewing height.
3. Bottom of the piece will hang 6 to 12 inches above furniture. Less than 6 inches can cause your space to feel cramped

How do I pick the perfect piece of artwork for my space?
When hunting for art, be mindful of what you’re drawn to and buy what you love. Avoid filling your home with only stock art and take your time finding one of a kind pieces that resonate with you.
Buying art is best approached from the heart. Rather than searching for a work that matches your architecture and furniture, look for something you love first. Then if it fits your aesthetics, dimensions of the space and budget, go for it. If in doubt about a purchase, explore the possibility of hanging the art in your home to see how it feels.
Are you drawn to florals, more modern pieces? Abstract or farmhouse style art? How about landscapes? What colors do you continually come back to when looking through art? Pay attention to your tendencies and follow your gut. Eventually you will curate a collection for yourself that is interesting, thoughtful and fully reflective of who you are.
Art doesn’t have to match, come from the same color palette or style. Combining canvas prints, sketches, watercolor, acrylic and photographic art will add another level of richness to your walls.
If you love it, just go for it!
